Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing primary industries in the world. Tropical Mariculture, the cultivation of organisms in warm marine waters, is developing areas as greater demands are placed on the production of aquatic food from traditional resources. This volume edited by De Silva is the first to address the development of mariculture in the tropics, and brings together chapters written by world experts in the field. Overview chapters discuss the conceptual framework while individual chapters address issues associated with the development of a new primary industry, and give detailed examples of cultivated species in the tropics.

About the Author
Sena S. De Silva is a chairmember in the Aquaculture Department at Deakin University, Australia. He has over 25 years of experience in aquaculture and fisheries management. De Silva has had numerous articles published relating to aquaculture, in addition to co-authoring a text and editing many others. He is a founding member of the Asian Fisheries Society, serving on its council for nine years and is currently Editor-in-Chief of its journal.

De Silva has done an excellent job of reviewing the current state of tropical marine aquaculture. I continue to use this work as a basic reference.
