The dynamic field of extraterrestrial chemistry brings together ideas of chemistr, astrophysics, and biology to the study of molecules between stars, around stars, and on plantes. This book serves as an introduction to chemial processes under ?unearthly? and hence usually extreme conditions (temperature, pressure, high or low density, bombardment by cosmic rays), and their impact on the early development of our solar system, as well as providing a deeper understanding of processes in earthly regions where conditions approach those of extraterrestrial areas.
A unique and extraordinary perspective written with chemists in mind. An excellent practical book for inorganic, and physical chemists, spectroscopists, astronomers, and libraries.

"It is a story of immense timescales and distances, coupled to the atomic and molecular processes at low temperaturs and densities that are controlled microscopically by the laws of quantum mechanics." (Chemistry World, 1 February 2011)

The Tomato Crop: A scientific basis for improvement (World Crop S)From Springer

The tomato is commercially important throughout the world both for the fresh fruit market and the processed food industries. It is grown in a wide range of climates in the field, under protection in plastic greenhouses and in heated glasshouses. Genetic, physiological and pathological investigations frequently adopt the tomato plant as a convenient subject. Hitherto, much of the information on tomatoes has been fragmented: tomatoes grown in the field and under protection have been considered separately and the more fundamental findings from research have often failed to reach those involved directly or indirectly in commercial crop production. Similarly, the research scientist is often unaware of the problems of commercial crop production and the possible relevance of his work to the crop. This book is an attempt to rectify that situation. By giving a thorough scientific review of all factors influencing tomato production systems, it is hoped that this book will prove useful to students, researchers and commercial producers alike. It gives the basis for the develop ment of improved cultivars, the formulation of strategies for managing pest, disease and disorder problems and the production of high yields of good quality fruit as well as suggesting important areas for scientific initiatives. The extensive bibliographies provide a comprehensive database for tomato researchers. Such a vast subject could not be covered with authority by anyone author.

Engineering Design, by George Dieter, Linda Schmidt

Dieter's Engineering Design represents a major update of this classic textbook for senior design courses. As in previous editions, Engineering Design provides a broader overview of topics than most design texts and contains much more prescriptive guidance on how to carry out design. Dieter focuses on material selection as well as how to implement the design process. Engineering Design provides the senior mechanical engineering students with a realistic understanding of the design process. It is written from the viewpoint that design is the central activity of the engineering profession, and it is more concerned with developing attitudes and approaches than in presenting design techniques and tools.

I feel like this is a hard subject to teach
By MSE fanatic
Although the book seems to attempt to demonstrate how one would go about designing, selecting materials, manufacturing, marketing, safety, etc. Its really not easy to grasp such concepts without hands one experience or involvement. The book is easy to read and does provide some really good detail on benchmarking materials, intellectual property / patents, and safety. It just doesn't seem like you can teach design even if you attempt to do it through concepts and case studies. Also the book suggest design via a materials approach but this is misleading because it doesn't look at it from a material science viewpoint rather what materials are available with this property at what cost.

Review

"There is no book like [Famous Pianists and Their Technique] in the English or any other language; it covers the gamut of technical development from Diruta or John Cage. Every important pedagogue is discussed in detail so it is easy to understand their unique contribution to the development of piano technique." ― Maurice Hinson, Senior Professor of Piano, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

"For both amateurs and professionals, Professor Gerig's book is entertaining and informative reading. Serious students of the instrument should place a high priority on owning this revision and reading it from cover to cover. From Mr. Gerig's enlightening narrative we learn as much about the lives of legendary pianists and pedagogues, their performing, and their teaching as we do about piano technique. Lastly, the paperback cover keeps the cost of the volume reasonable." ―Reid Alexander, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Journal American Liszt Society, Vol.25.1 Winter/Spring 2009

"Called 'the bible of piano technique' by Maurice Hinson, this book is a comprehnsive resource for the student, teacher and professional pianist." ―The Washington Times, January 7, 2011

"... the expanded part of Gerig's book [is] so impressive that this section by itself is worth more than the price of the book. Just one of the cross-referenced ideas would be enough to spur a thesis, dissertation, or lecture-recital.... Scholars will not be disappointed at the array of obscure facts and hard-to-locate bibliography. Pedagogues will relish this text as an indispensable reference for their courses and daily work. Pianists will be able to constantly refer and return to their historical heritage. Gerig's book has not only withstood the test of time, but will continue to do so." ―Piano Journal

"This book was eye-opening when the first edition... appeared, and it remains so today.... The new edition is somewhat enhanced with the addition of a short foreword by Alan Walker and a number of appendixes that refer the reader to specific discussion areas such as 'the aesthetic imperative, mental and psychological control, isolated movements, coordinated movements, posture,' and so on.... Recommended...." ―Choice

"Professor Gerig's amassing in one volume of such a gigantic overview of various schools and approaches to piano technique is awesome. His book has value not only for the scholar as an extremely fascinating historical tracing of various major performers, composers, and pedagogues, but an equally vital use as a reference work for the performer involved in the art of playing the piano." ―Joseph Banowetz, Professor of Piano, University of North Texas

"... [a] classic study of keyboard technique...." ―Patricia Stroh, Beethoven Journal, Vol. 22.2 Winter 2007

THE standard reference work
By Alan Fraser
Reginald Gerig has done a huge and wonderful job of amassing a complete history of the development of piano technique. I discovered this book while still in University and still use it today, 20 years later. Gerig doesn't just give you historical facts, but real analysis of the actual technical components of different schools of technique - there is practical information in here! Also, the valuable first section investigates the antecedents of piano technique in harpsichord technique, an aspect of the story too often overlooked.

Gerig gives you the whole picture - a 'must have' for any pianist's library.

Alan Fraser, author of The Craft of Piano Playing

Unique history of piano teaching
By Roy Bogas
Gerig's book on the history of piano teaching is a major work full of valuable information and is indispensable for any class on piano pedagogy. Gerig has done a great service to the piano teaching community by providing background information on the contributions to teaching by all the important figures in recent history, some well known and some lesser known but equally important. His insights into their contributions are well thought out and the bibliography is extensive. Highest recommendation.

Classical Music: The Era of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven (The Norton Introduction to Music History), by Philip G. Downs

In this, the fourth volume in the Norton Introduction to Music History series, Philip Downs traces the rise and decline of the "Classical" style from the birth of Haydn (1732) to the death of Beethoven (1827).

He demonstrates the enormous diversity and constant change that characterized every aspect of music during this period. By dividing his text into twenty-year spans, Downs is able to trace the development of musical style. Within each span he looks at the social conditions and daily life of the musician, and the aesthetics and audience preferences in structures, performing combinations and styles. The lesser composers, or Kleinmeister, are observed, since they are the most accurate mirrors of their times. Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven receive full biographical scrutiny at each stage of their development. Copious music examples and abundant illustrations are also provided.

From the Back Cover
The latest volume in the Norton Introduction to Music History series focuses on the rise and decline of the Classical style, which flourished from the middle of the eighteenth century to the second decade of the nineteenth. The author demonstrates the enormous diversity and constant change that characterized music and musical life during this period. Downs eschews the usual stylistic labels, such as Rococo and High Classic, and instead organizes the text into short time spans. Within each, he looks to the social conditions and daily life of the musician, the aesthetics and audience preference in structures, performing combinations, and performing styles. The minor composers, or kleinmeister, are carefully observed, since they most accurately mirror their times. On the other hand, the giants, who left their mark on music for all time, receive full biographical scrutiny at each stage of their development. The book begins with the transition from the Baroque up to 1760 and the burgeoning new style that developed in the next two decades. The author then focuses on the early years of Haydn and Mozart before giving full treatment to the last twenty years of the eighteenth century, which saw the Classical style reach its apogee. Downs returns to the mature Haydn and deals with the last decade of Mozart's life, and finally considers Beethoven's musical origins and accomplishments. He concludes by documenting the eighteenth-century heritage at work in the early nineteenth century. Copiously illustrated, with abundant music examples, this fascinating survey provides invaluable insights into the period that produced some of the most astonishing music ever written.

Just a little drier than the other Norton books
By Tobin Sparfeld
Downs' book comes from the Norton Introduction to Music History Series. I've read the others (excluding Hill's book on Baroque Music not yet released), and while it's good, it's unfortunately the weakest of the lot.

The book is geared for graduate study in music, and is a little too heady for beginners (by the way, the book's title refers only to Western music in the Classic Period, c.1760-1830).

Downs takes a chronological approach to the subject, but begins with a boring introduction on Eighteenth-century philosophy and musical aesthetics. This really is a shame, because the rest of the book (if you make it through) happens to be much better.

Downs covers the early emergence of Classic music out of the Baroque, and then follows with two short chapters on the first halves of Haydn and Mozart, respectively. After another interlude on music and other aspects during the Classic Period, Downs resumes with Haydn, Mozart, adds some Beethoven, and then leads the transition into the nineteenth century.

Despite the boring beginning, Downs' writing style is still very rigorous and scholarly. He makes many references to the book's sister, the Norton Anthology of Classical Music, and provides the most in-depth analyses of the entire Norton Series.

I feel bad giving the book three stars, but the other books by Atlas, Plantinga, Morgan and Hoppin are all better. Reinhard Pauly's book is also out there, but it's shorter and I haven't read it. Norton also published Charles Rosen's book Classical Style in 1999, which may be in response to this volume.

I must say, however, that on information alone, this book is very good and can be a great reference.

A very comprehensive source
By Matthew C. Steel
Downs Classical Music is intended for upper-level undergrads and graduate students in music. I use it in my 500-level class because the historical account is very comprehensive, including substantial references to sources that would otherwise have to be assigned as outside reading. The book begins with a detailed account of the late Baroque and Pre-Classic era, information that students have often forgot from their introductory courses. The analyses of works are generally good. There are some drawbacks that need to be addressed. First, the accompanying Anthology contains a wide variety of works, but almost no complete works. Students are deprived of complete sonatas, symphonies, concerti and other longer works. Also there is no set of recordings to accompany the Anthology. Many works in the Anthology require real digging to find a recording. Finally, the last chapter gathers all of Beethoven's works together as a kind of afterthought. Right now I can't find a more informative text for my students.

This book is excellent for both students and teachers who are studying the Classic Era of music history. This source goes along well with other Norton pulications such as the Romantic Era and the Norton Publication that spans from Ancient music to the Baroque. I have all of these sources and it has enriched my knowledge in the area of music history a great deal!

Review
In this new edition of Smith's book, the focus has changed with the times. There are about half as many lens designs in the new edition, and the new material is directed toward design projects. Smith shows what he did, including blunders, to design a lens from first concept to final design. The designs include a cemented doublet, a triplet anastigmat, a Heliar, a Schmidt-Cassegrain, a landscape lens, and many more. The computer program OSLO was used to design the work, but the write-ups are program-neutral. Therefore, this book can be used with any lens design software. This book is a working person's text; there are very few derivations of techniques or derivations from first principles, Maxwell's equations, or Fermat's principle. The assumption is that the reader understands the basic optical principles and may have a command of the fundamentals of classical optical design methods. In short, a compendium of design techniques available today and a prescriptive resource for a variety of already designed lens types that can be starting points for a lens designer's efforts. Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduates through professionals. -- D.B. Mason, Albright College

From the Back Cover
"This authoritative work is truly a rare find ... Smith's book is clearly written and exceedingly well organized ... When read from start to finish, the book makes it clear how the simple techniques demonstrated in the early chapters are developed and applied to more complex lens design forms."
--Laser Focus, on the previous edition

"An authoritative collection of lens design forms in a clear, readable format, Modern Lens Design is well worth acquiring by any student of the art of lens design.
-- Optical Engineering, on the previous edition

Modern Lens Design is an excellent textbook in optical design using personal computer software. Even though there has been much progress in optical design software since the book was written, the principles are timeless.

Easy to read book on traditional lens design
By RAB
I purchased the 2nd edition of Warren Smith's 'classic' on lens design. Rather dated, and I advise the prospective buy to try to hold out for the most recent edition, the 4th, because considerable important 'modern' information was added to it. That said, if the earlier editions can be purchased at a temptingly low price, you'll still get most of what's important about the subject.

Practical Textbook on lens design now in 2nd Edition
By P. Nagy
Excerpt: My personal optical design experience has spanned more than five decades. They have been exciting, fascinating, and delightful decades; I have enjoyed each one. During that half century, lens design has changed radically. In the mid-twentieth century, lens design was still a semi-intuitive art, practiced by a few dedicated individuals of great per-severance, knowledge, and skill. And by mid-century most of the classic lens design forms had already been created. To this day, these designs are still the basis of many excellent modern optical systems.

Of course the practice of lens design today is radically different from what it was in the 1940s and 50s. Then, most optical design was done with an electromechanical desk calculator (e.g., Marchant, Frieden, and Monroe), and the raytracing rate, measured in terms of the number of surfaces through which one could trace the path of a ray in a given amount of time, was to the order of one ray surface in about 250s (if one were to work at it continuously through the day). Thus, using the cur-rent dimensions for raytracing speed, one did about 0.004 ray-surfaces per second. And these were only meridional two-dimensional rays, not the three-dimensional general rays ordinarily traced today. A great deal of ingenuity (and elegant theory) went into finding ways to avoid tracing any more rays than were absolutely necessary.

Thanks to the modern personal computer or PC, the computing rate has increased almost unbelievably. Today a run-of-the-mill PC is capable of calculating several million ray-surfaces per second; this is about nine or ten orders of magnitude faster. Needless to say the techniques of lens design today differ mightily from those of fifty or sixty years ago. Then, the designer might calculate the derivatives of a few aberrations with respect to a limited number of constructional parameters and solve a small set of simultaneous, linear equations in the course of correcting his lens. These limited calculations were all carefully selected on the basis of theory, experience, and intuition. (Interestingly, one of the very real problems facing designers today is that the computer spews out

numbers so rapidly that it takes strong self-discipline just to make one-self stop and think.)

In modern lens design work, a computer program almost instantaneously calculates and solves equations which are far more than an order of magnitude more complex and extensive than those cited above. It is not atypical for the computer program to control about 50 lens performance characteristics by adjusting the values of some 20 or 30 construction parameters of the optical system. These latter numbers imply a design space with 20 or 30 dimensions, a complex space indeed.

There are, however, some real limitations on the power of a so-called automatic lens design program. The typical program proceeds from a given starting design and drives the design to the nearest local optimum, a form at which any small structural changes will degrade the system performance. System performance is judged by a set of calculated characteristics defined in a merit function, which would be better termed a defect or error function, since the characteristics in it represent departures from desired values.

Obviously then, the final automatic design solution is completely and uniquely determined by (a) the merit function, (b) the starting design form, and (c) the algorithm by which the computer solves the problem of locating an optimum design form with the minimum value of the merit function.

When the first edition of Modern Lens Design (MLD) was published, there was a great need for a collection of suitable design forms at which to start the design process, and MLD provided almost 300 lens designs for this purpose. These designs were selected not only as starting points, but also as illustrations of important design principles. At the present time the need for sample designs, while still real, is significantly less, largely because most optical design programs now include libraries of lens designs. (These programs also include random search design capabilities which permit large changes in lens forms.) For example, all of the lens designs in the first edition of MLD (plus many others) are included in the lens libraries of the optical design program OSLO (a product of Lambda Research Corp.). Another program, LensVIEW by Brian Caldwell, is a compilation of over 30,000 lens designs and patents.

That said, it is (at least it is for me) far more easy and convenient to scan and compare a series of printed design pages than it is to do the same thing on a computer screen (even with the multiwindow capabilities of many programs). For this and other reasons this second edition of MLD has retained about half of the original designs and has added some new ones. The reader may also find some additional designs in the works referenced at the end of the book.

The practice of lens design is now essentially an engineering discipline. While this book is intended to be self-contained, we deliberately

do not include a lot of derivations, or even the mechanics of exact ray tracing. And as valuable and cherished as they may be in academia, we happily omit any derivations from first principles, Maxwell's equations, or Fermat's principle. These are simply not necessary for a book on lens design. We make one exception to the no "ray tracing" rule, namely for the tracing of paraxial rays, which a lens designer often carries out by hand, or with a programmed pocket calculator. This topic is covered in the Formulary of Chapter 24, along with other valuable and frequently used geometrical optics relationships.

However, there is currently a growing need for a more detailed exposition of basic lens design and theory in a single volume. The first edition of MLD was a "companion" volume to the author's Modern Optical Engineering. Several very basic lens design books have recently appeared; some are almost extended user manuals written for a specific design program. This edition of MLD is definitely not intended as a user manual, or as a guide to any specific program. It is an attempt to go well beyond this level by presenting both the basics of, and a more advanced approach to, lens design. The intent is to advise the reader how to get the most from any computer lens design program. To this end, about half of the lens designs in the first edition of MLD have been eliminated to make room for quite a bit of new material.

The text is, as far as possible, completely program neutral. I have tried to make the material regarding design programs as generic as I could, discussing features that are available in almost all commercial soft-ware. I have used OSLO for the design work demonstrated in the text, and for preparing the new figures. (The lens analysis figures in the first edition of MLD were prepared with a customized version of the program GENII, using a new and unique presentation style which is now widely available; for an example, see the OSLO aberration plots herein.)

Most neophyte lens designers very quickly get past the basics and learn to use their computer programs with a high level of proficiency. At this point, what they need most is an answer to the question, "What do I do now?" Much of the new material in this edition is designed to this end and takes the form of actual design projects carried out from scratch, warts and all. (In other words, I have not papered over the blunders I made in the design process.) These designs include a cemented doublet, a triplet anastigmat, a Tessar, a Heliar, a Dogmar, a telephoto, a Schmidt cassegrain, a binocular eyepiece, an apochromatic triplet, and a landscape lens. Many of these design stories are carried out to some length to illustrate all of the possible steps that can be taken to improve a design. Every initial assumption is explained and justified. These design descriptions not only show the basic design

approach, but continue on with advanced steps and the rationale for them.

I have surveyed the literature at some length for any design techniques which might have a general applicability (as well as the reported specific use for the writer's specific problem). Some were found in the references listed at the end of the book. For the most part, the design techniques described here are those which I have found to be useful in working with an optimization program. Many of the techniques have been developed or refined during more than two decades of teaching courses in lens design; indeed some of these ideas were suggested or inspired by my students. Other valuable sources were the many informal discussions that I have been fortunate to have with my colleagues.

For better or worse, one can never seem to squeeze all the material that you want into a book. At the manuscript deadline date there is always at least one more feature that you wished there was enough time to develop, write, and include. But I suppose that if there were time, no book would ever be finished.

Surprisingly, there are only a modest number of well-understood and widely utilized principles of optical design. If one can master a thorough understanding of these principles, their effects, and their mechanisms, it is easy to recognize them in existing designs and also easy to apply them to one's own design work. It is the intent here to promote such understanding by presenting both expositions and annotated design examples of these principles.

Readers are free to use the designs in this book as starting points for their own design efforts, or in any other way they see fit. The reader must accept full responsibility for meeting whatever limitations are imposed on the use of these designs by any patent, copyright, or other (whether indicated herein or not).

Bone Histology of Fossil Tetrapods: Advancing Methods, Analysis, and InterpretationFrom University of California Press

The microscopic examination of fossilized bone tissue is a sophisticated and increasingly important analytical tool for understanding the life history of ancient organisms. This book provides an essential primer and manual for using fossil bone histology to investigate the biology of extinct tetrapods. Twelve experts summarize advances in the field over the past three decades, reviewing fundamental basics of bone microanatomy and physiology. Research specimen selection, thin-section preparation, and data analysis are addressed in detail. The authors also outline methods and issues in bone growth rate calculation and chronological age determination, as well as how to examine broader questions of behavior, ecology, and evolution by studying the microstructure of bone.

EVOLUTION: A Grand Monument to Human Stupidity, by Daniel Jappah

The theory of evolution has changed so much- claiming that humans are closely related genetically to chimps, mice, donkeys, and even fish - that the theory is now a blurred mess masquerading as a scientific fact. It's a theory built on countless speculations, scientific fraud, and multiple conflicting theories. Garnering the evidence from biology, chemistry, genetics, geology, history, paleontology, and physics, evolution is exposed as a racist philosophy and a false science that provided the "scientific" justification for the Holocaust and other genocides, including the plot to silently exterminate American minorities through abortion and birth control. The evidence for evolution is examined in the light of genuine science. You may not like what you read, but you can't argue with the facts.

A Grand Monument to Human Stupidity, Indeed!
By V
Daniel Jappah's book EVOLUTION: A GRAND MONUMENT TO HUMAN STUPIDITY is itself a minor monument to human stupidity. After a biographical narrative contrasting the supposed darkness of evolution-infected college biology courses with the scintillating brilliance of his own anti-evolution religious convictions, the author tries his hand at lambasting evolutionary biology. His rationale? Jappah states in the Forward to his book that in tackling the demon of evolution he's inspired to overlook the deficiencies of his own curriculum vitae by the fact that no member of the U. S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) has received a Nobel prize for research in evolutionary biology. The "logic" of such reasoning leaves one slack-jawed and bug-eyed with incredulity: "These scientists haven't received Nobel prizes for research in evolutionary biology, and neither have I. So I'm as qualified as they are to pronounce on evolutionary biology." He further concludes: "...therefore, the strategy of the NAS of using Nobel scientists to defend evolution is just as valid as using an auto mechanic to defend quantum mechanics." Of course, by parity of reasoning, the use of non-Nobel-recipient Creationists to ATTACK evolution is just as valid as going to one's dry cleaner for dental prophylaxis. Self-insight obviously isn't Jappah's long suit.

Think about it: according to the Theory of Evolution, it took some 3.5 billion years of natural selection to produce Daniel Jappah. So Jappah arrives just in the nick of time to write a book simply bursting with the wisdom of ages, the sort of book that actually turns its readers into authentic geniuses. That's right: when one reads Jappah's book, one can actually FEEL oneself becoming as much more intelligent than Albert Einstein as Einstein himself was more intelligent than a parakeet. Most importantly, the book enables one to comprehend, probably for the first time, the three crucial axioms of Creation Science: (1) it is always darkest where there is least light; (2) you are most alone when there is no one else; and (3) things would be different if they hadn't turned out like this. But if you just can't tell that reading the book is making you smarter, then simply turn the book upside down and read it again BACKWARDS. Welcome, Brother, to the Golden Age of Stupidity, a time when stupidity is not merely the norm but the ideal.

Brilliant!

A no nonsense demolition of the theory of evolution using prominent evolutionist's own statements and findings against them. Plenty of humor adds to the enjoyment of reading.

Dirty Secrets of Evolution
By Legal Eagle
Daniel Jappah has exposed the dirty secrets of evolution in his 391-page book, Evolution: A Grand Monument To Human Stupidity”. (Yes, I read the entire book.)

The theory of evolution was popularized by Charles Darwin in 1859. Few people know the full title of his book. It is: “On The Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection Or The Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle For Life”. Note that the racist portion of the title is not well known: “Preservation of Favored Races”.

Evolutionists believed that the human races had different ancestors: the white race descended from the chimpanzees, the blacks from gorillas and the Asians from orangutans. The white race was superior, the Asians next, and the blacks were basically still animals. The blacks supposedly had only the intelligence of an 11-year-old white boy.

Jappah quotes Darwin: “At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world.”

Early evolutionists preached white superiority, racial purity and segregation of the races. An African pigmy was even displayed in an animal cage at a New York zoo.

What impressed me is that Jappah, a black man, used the very last chapter in his book to examine the racial roots of evolution. I am sure it took a lot of restraint, which adds to the credibility of Jappah’s book.

Restraint is necessary when we read about “scientists” who collected black penises and placed them in jars in their library or study. Yes, the black men first had to be murdered by the bounty hunters. I would not be as kind as Jappah. I would call them murderers and mentally disordered sex offenders of the worst type. These people claim to be “scientists”? Shame on them and shame on the evolutionary theory!

Evolutionists also became fervent believers in the evil science of eugenics, i.e., getting rid of the unfit and undesirable peoples. Jappah writes that Planned Parenthood was started by Margaret Sanger who wanted to exterminate the black people through sterilization, pregnancy prevention and abortion.

Jappah concludes his book by describing evolution as an “evil and racist philosophy masquerading as science”.

I won’t go through all the arguments against evolution. You should read the book for that.

The reason for teaching evolution in high schools today is that there is no other theory to teach, except for creation by a supreme being. Many scientists in other disciplines openly scoff at the theory of evolution, and the lack of solid evidence. The origin of life cannot be explained except by surmise and conjecture. No missing links have ever been found, although there have been a number of attempts to falsify missing links. The complexity of life cannot be explained, nor the huge variety of life.

Richard Dawkins, a staunch supporter of evolution attempts to explain the design in nature by claiming that it is only an illusion created by random choice. Just several days ago Stephen Hawking released his book The Grand Design, where he opines:

“Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”

When there is nothing, there are no laws. Nothing. How can Hawking claim that gravity existed before there was any matter? This is an assumption without any basis in fact and is lacking in simple logic. The claim is absurd that nothing created everything.

I have read a number of books on evolutionary theory, and the book by Jappah is one of the better ones. Buy it and read it!
